Cold Update

Hello readers!  Well it’s been a couple days since I started taking my antibiotics and my ears are still very much clogged.  However, I do feel like I am improving a little each day.  I’m still unsure of when I am able to get back to working out but I’m hoping to be able by Friday.  It all depends if I still have chest congestion by then.  I have been keeping up with the nutrition and I have actually lost an additional 2 pounds since Monday making it a total of 6 pounds lost since the start of the challenge.  I think my metabolism is starting to work faster because I have been eating at least 5 times a day.  I have already stopped being strict on calorie counting.  I will count my meals at times when I feel as if I am going to eat too much in one meal.

I’m going to try to do a little ab workouts using either my TorsoBall or doing some of the workouts from Insanity Cardio Abs.  With all of the laying around and naps I have taken the past few days, I feel as I need to do a some sort of light exercise even if it’s just for a few minutes.

Happy Hump Day!

Sick – No Insanity

I have been very wrong about this cold.  I really thought it would pass very quickly but it hasn’t so I went to go see my doctor today.  Both of my ears are very clogged and it had started to give me headaches and made my jaw ache last night.  It turns out that I have a virus and an inner ear infection.  I asked him if I can still do Insanity and he said I can’t for a few days until I get better especially since I’m starting to develop a cough.  Just lots of rest for the next few days along with plenty of fluids of course.  He prescribed me three different medicines including a Z-Pak.  Even though I can’t workout, I’m still going to continue eating healthy and drinking Shakeology.

On the brighter note, I have lost 4 pounds since I started the program last Monday!  We have two scales here at home which show different readings.  One is digital and the other is an older scale \.  I thought the older one was more accurate.  They weighed me at the doctor’s office and I was able to compare the results from there to the scales at home.  It turns out the digital scale was accurate the whole time.  I started the program a few pounds heavier that I thought.  I know it’s not about the scale but how you look and feel.  I think it’s good to know how my progress is on the scale.  Anyways, losing 4 pounds in a week is good enough for me! Can’t wait to get back into my workouts once I get better and lose even more : )

Insanity Day 7

Insanity Workout: Cardio Recovery and Cardio Abs

I woke up feeling a little bit more sick today.    As much as I wanted to take another day to rest, I know I needed to get my workout in.  I did a little research on working out when you’re sick and if you have a head cold (which I do have) it’s okay to do so but take it easy.  Today was Cardio Recovery and Cardio Abs today so I’m glad it was an easier workout.  I did what I could and actually did pretty well and I for some reason felt a little better.

Insanity Day 6

Insanity Workout: Off Day

Yup, today has turned into an off day.  I woke up feeling more sick today and I didn’t want to get any worse.  I really thought it was something small and would pass the next day because it’s happened before.  I am switching up today and since tomorrow was supposed to be an off day, I’ll be doing Cardio Recovery and Cardio Abs.  I might even throw in Fast and Furious depending on how I feel tomorrow.  But for now, I’m going to continue to rest tonight and look forward to doing my workouts tomorrow.

On a very side note, Rest In Peace Whitney Houston.

Insanity Day 5

Insanity Workout: Plyometric Cardio Circuit

Happy Friday!  The weather here in Chicago could be a little better but I’ll make the best day out of it.  I finished another round of the Plyometric Cardio Circuit workout and it feels as if my body is still working out.  I pushed a little harder today even though I feel like I’m getting sick.  I woke up with a scratchy throat and a runny nose.  However, I didn’t feel sick when I was working out.  As I’m writing this entry, I’m enjoying my daily dose of Chocolate Shakeology.  I blended a scoop with water, Almond Milk, ice, strawberries, blueberries, and I thought I would make it a more interesting with some kale.  The shake still tastes great!  I also love that I’m chewing the bits of kale in it.  I’m sure with all of the fruits, vegetables, and Shakeology I’ll be feeling 100 percent tomorrow.

It seems as if I have a theme for each day.  I have lots of motivational posters that go hand in hand with my journey so far since I started working out and eating healthy.  It’s all about no excuses today.  If you really want something, you’ll do no matter what it takes to get it.

Insanity Day 4

Insanity Workout: Pure Cardio and Cardio Abs

I have one word to describe today’s workout…”INSANE!”  I know what you’re probably saying…”Duh, isn’t that why it’s called Insanity?”  Well yeah, it still was the hardest one so far.  Just when I thought Monday’s and Tuesday’s workouts were hard, Shaun T kicks it up a notch with Pure Cardio.  There are no intervals; just nonstop cardio and each move lasted a minute compared to 30 seconds each and doing them in a circuit.  It’s crazy how a lot of the people working out in the video had to take lots of breaks and they are very fit.  I mentioned before how my room is generally cold especially with one of my windows being broken.  It got so hot in my room that I had to plug in my fan and turn it up full blast.  After Pure Cardio, came Cardio Abs.  It was a little slower paced with no sit-ups or crunches and I can definitely feel that I worked out my core.

Once again, I felt like I wanted to quit during Cardio Abs and of course I didn’t quit.  I love how Shaun T motivates you to keep on going and keep pushing through each move.  I felt like he was right there with me lol.  I took my breaks and had to modify a few more moves than usual today.  Either way, it was very rewarding to finish today’s workout.

Fat Distribution

I found an interesting picture from Pinterest.  Thanks for pinning this Mary!  I’ve always wondered how fat looks internally especially around the organs.  It makes me want to work out again today.  Yikes!

This body scan shows the fat distribution of a 250 lb woman vs a 120 lb woman. Notice that the internal fat that can’t be seen with the eye is quite different. There is fat around the heart and though out the abdomen. The liver (upper right side of abdomen) is enlarged with fat. This is called “fatty liver” and can cause liver failure. The bones and joints of the legs are showing the effects of the extra weight.

Insanity Day 3

Insanity Workout: Cardio Recovery

Today’s workout was a little easier than the past couple of days but it was still hard at the same time.  Cardio Recovery involved a lot of stretching and control.  It was a shorter workout but I was able to work up a good sweat the whole time.  I had to take a few breaks from some of the longer poses.  It’ll get easier from here and I won’t be holding up so much of it as I lose weight.

I have been testing the theory that if you eat an orange before a workout, you will experience less muscle soreness and they help you stay hydrated.  So far so good and I believe it does work.  I am still a little sore today but not as sore as I would normally be after a hard workout.  Can’t wait to dig deeper tomorrow!

Insanity Day 2

Insanity Workout: Cardio Power and Resistance

I woke up this morning feeling a little sore but not as sore as I thought I would be.  When I tried out Insanity a few weeks ago and P90X two weeks ago, I was so sore I couldn’t walk right.  I heard if you eat an orange before a workout, you will experience less muscle soreness and they help you stay hydrated.  I found that helpful little tip on Pinterest lol.  I have never eaten an orange before a workout so maybe it worked.  That and along with eating lots of greens, drinking twelve glasses of water, and drinking my Shakeology.  I ate another one before my workout today so let’s see how I feel tomorrow.

Today’s workout was Cardio Power and Resistance.  It focused more on the upper-body with strength-training and power moves.  I thought it was a little harder than yesterday’s workout as my upper-body strength isn’t too good at the moment.  I took a few more breaks than the other day and I paused the DVD once towards the end so I had a little more time to recover before powering through the final circuit.  I’ll be honest, I was thinking of just calling it a day and be done with it.  I told myself no, I can’t do that because the only person I would be hurting was myself if I stopped.  I don’t have to go all out in the beginning and I can go at my own pace.  Like Shaun T says “Take that rest if you need it, but don’t stop!”  I still have a long journey ahead of me and I know all of my hard work will pay off once I reach my goal : )

Insanity Day 1

Insanity Workout: Plyometric Cardio Circuit

Day 1 has finally arrived!  I had done my Fit Test the night before and I think I did alright for my first one.  Anyways, our first workout is Plyometric Cardio Circuit.  It’s 42 minutes long with intervals of intense lower-body plyo and sweat-inducing cardio.  Before I started it, I realized it’s the same workout I tried out before I decided to join the challenge.  I went too hard at first and only lasted about 25 minutes.  I’m not going to go into detail but let’s just say I didn’t feel too well after that.  This time around I took it a little easier and I took breaks when I needed it.  I didn’t pause the DVD it like last time but I finished it all the way through!  My room is always cold and at the end of the workout, I was drenched in sweat.

It feels great to work out again and it feels greater eating healthy again.  I had a Shakeology shake for breakfast and I’m surprised how much it made me feel full with only a scoop and 8 ounces of water with a little bit of ice.  I won’t really be strict on counting calories this time around.  I’ll use it as more of a guide but I’m going to be doing a max of 1900 calories a day.  I’m going to focus more on getting the best and most nutrients each day.  I purchased a book call “Eat To Live” by Dr. Joel Fuhrman that I know will definitely teach me more about eating healthier.  Eventually I’m going stop counting calories when I get used to eating right and getting the portion control down.

I’m ready to “dig deeper” tomorrow!
