Day 2

Yeah, I’m a little sore today.  I bet I’ll be more sore tomorrow though.  I need to get myself to work out in the morning instead of in the afternoon or late at night.  I just finished my workout since I kind of had a busy day.  I got a new part-time job as a merchandiser today and I unexpectedly ended up having to cover a couple stores tonight.  It seems like I’ll probably end up working out as soon as I get home from work tomorrow night.  I have to wake up early to cover a few stores for the new job and then work at Rosetta Stone downtown.

I still have the feeling of withdrawal all day.  I just looked it up and one website said it’s similar to any other addiction.  I can’t wait to get over it and hopefully I’ll get over it within the next couple of days.  Time to finally eat dinner.

Day 1

Today was my official start date of dieting and exercising.  My diet is high protein and low carbs.  I absolutely LOVE carbs so it’s going to be a little tough in the beginning.  I snack throughout the day to make sure I always have protein in my body so I will be eating 5-6 times a day.  As apart of my snack or meal replacement, I went to the Vitamin Shoppe to buy Super Pro which is a protein powder along with Acai Cleanse and Detox to rid my body of extra water and toxins.  I also take a supplement to help suppress my appetite and boost my metabolism.  On top of that, I drink 1 gallon of water throughout the day.

It was a little hard getting through the day today since I’m not used to eating very healthy and eating smaller portions.   All day I felt like I was going through withdrawal that’s similar to quitting smoking, alcohol, etc. except my withdrawal was from food.  I know it’ll take some time to used to.

My new workout plan lasts at least an hour.  I haven’t done any type of exercise in a very long time so today’s workout was exhausting.  It amazes me how out of shape I am.  Not to mention it amazes me even more that I weighed a lot more than I thought when I weighed myself first thing this morning.  I’ll be weighing myself in one week to see how much weight I’ve lost.  I will probably be very sore the next few days but I’ll be ready and I will keep on going until I meet my goal.  I just need to remember to take on one pound at a time.

The Day Before

On Saturday and Sunday, I pretty much enjoyed my last “fatty” meals as much as I could.  I won’t be able to eat a lot of the things I enjoy for a while.  I went to my favorite restaurant in downtown Naperville, BD’s Mongolian Grill, and used up the coupon I received in my email for a free Birthday bowl on Saturday with my cousin Elaine and her boyfriend Bert.  And on Sunday night, I had BBQ Ribs and mashed potatoes.  Even though my Birthday is coming up on Friday and I have my Birthday dinner on Sunday night, I’ll still stick to eating healthy or at least eat small portions.

I guess it’s time I should get to bed so I can wake up early to start the new workout program right by eating breakfast and doing my workout.  From here on out, it’s all healthy eating and exercise from here!

Everything Happens For A Reason

I believe everything happens for a reason.  We meet people in our lives for a reason.  During work a couple of weekends ago, I met Alex Ong and his wife while they were looking for a new TV.  Alex Ong is an inspirational speaker, coach, and natural health author of the self-help book titled Mind Your Own Wellness (http://www.mindyourownwellness.com) .  He is a specialist on the subjects of stress, weight-loss, obesity, productivity, healthcare cost reduction, natural health, and wellness.  We talked about his book and what led him to writing it.  While speaking to him, he had me say “One Pound At A Time” out loud 3 times.  After saying it, I believed in it.

I came across an opportunity to try out a new workout plan.  It made a lot of sense and has gotten me very excited to try it out.  After coming across this opportunity and meeting Alex, I knew this was right the time for me to lose weight.  I knew I will finally achieve what I have been trying to do for years.

Weight Background

I have tried different diets, supplements my mom has had me try, exercising on my own, and exercise equipment I bought that I’ve seen on commercials.  I get myself motivated to try to lose weight and I end up losing that motivation and get off track.

I was a pretty skinny as a young kid while growing up.  I think I started gaining weight at the age of 7 or 8 while I was in the 2nd grade.  Every year I would gain a little weight but it really did not bother me until middle school.  I would get very tired and get very winded after running for only a few minutes.  Even though I played on the girls basketball team in 7th and 8th grade, I still had a disadvantage because I was not as fit as the other girls.

As high school came around, I started getting more and more self-conscious of my appearance.   I was on another sports team and this time it was on the Girls Varsity Tennis Team during my senior year.  After high school, I played on the Women’s Tennis Team at the College of DuPage during my freshman year.  Sure I was overweight and bigger than the rest of the girls on the team, but I was a great hustler.  I would sprint towards every ball and would usually get to it.  Sometimes I would surprise my opponents, teammates, coaches, spectators, and even myself.  A little over a month before Nationals in Texas I put myself on a diet on top of still playing tennis almost everyday at least 3 or 4 hours a day.  I lost 20 pounds before Nationals but right after that, I stopped eating healthy and gained weight again.

I was not able to play the next year and every year after that, I played less and less tennis.  My arms and legs weren’t as toned and I wasn’t as athletic.  All I did was lay around and go out.  I gained more and more weight and I am now at my heaviest.

My feelings and problems…
I am sick of feeling tired all the time and I am sick of feeling so self-conscious.  I want to be able to not have a hard time looking for the right clothes that will look good on me.  Trying to find a new outfit stresses me out because most of the time, they do not fit me or do not look right.

I know it’s not all about looks these days, but it’s hard looking for a guy while being overweight.  Too many people judge on looks and not personality.  But of course there has to be some attraction as well.  People say it’s all about confidence but I just don’t have any.  And I know as I get closer and closer to my goal weight, I’ll gain more confidence.  I just want to feel better about myself.

Most importantly, I am worried about my health.  I do not want to have more health problems as I get older.  I do not want to have a heart attack by the age of 30.  Diabetes and high blood pressure run through my family and I would like to lessen my chances by losing weight.  I have Severe Sleep Apnea.  For those who do not know what Sleep Apnea is; it is a sleep disorder characterized by abnormal pauses in breathing or instances of abnormally low breathing, during sleep.  Each pause in breathing, called an apnea, can last from a few seconds to minutes, and may occur 5 to 30 times or more an hour.  In summary, I do not get enough oxygen to my brain which makes me tired during the day and I sometimes fall asleep even while driving.  It also causes me to snore very loud.  I have to wear a CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) to help me sleep through the night.  I have to lose weight in order for me to not wear a CPAP for the rest of my life.

Hello and welcome to my blog!  The main purpose of One Pound At A Time is to document my journey and progress as I try to reach my goal of losing 110 pounds in 365 days by trying out a new workout program.  This blog will help motivate me to stay on track.  Depending if I can generate any readers along my journey, I’m hoping this might inspire others in trying to reach their own goal; whether they’re trying to lose weight themselves or trying to achieve any other goals.

My official start date of exercising and dieting starts on Monday, November 29th, 2010.  I will be following a new workout program and I will have a couple of months to stay on track.  I will write about what I eat, how much weight I have lost, and will include pictures when I can.  With permission and upon successful completion of this new program, I will share in detail what type of exercise I have been doing.

In the meantime, the address to this blog will be https://xtinec.wordpress.com.  I was not able to renew my old website in time and will have to wait a couple of months before I can renew it again.
